Seat Alhambra Key Problems
Seat's jumbo family MPV is among the best in its class when it comes to conserving resale value. And with a new generation model now available, it's even better.

There are many reasons why the key fob won't work properly, including an inoperative coin battery or damage to the receiver module, or signal interference. This article will guide you through the steps to get it back in working order.
Water Damage
If your key fob for the seat Alhambra is able to withstand a wash cycle or a dip in the ocean or a pool then it is equipped with a waterproof chip. But, you shouldn't do this often since prolonged exposure to water can increase the chance of the key fob becoming damaged. If your key fob ceases to functioning after exposure to rain or clean tap water, take out the battery and wipe the electronic component using a paper towel. Allow it to dry completely before replacing the battery. In case of exposure to soapy or salty water, it is recommended that you clean the chip using isopropyl alcohol or a electronic cleaner before attempting to put the battery back in.
Faulty Receiver Module
If the key fob will not lock or unlock even after you've replaced the battery in the button cell it is possible that the receiver module is suffering from a fault. The good news is that it is a relatively simple and cost-effective fix. You can disconnect the 12 volt battery for just a few minutes (first take off the negative cable, then press the horn button numerous times) to drain any residual electricity and then reconnect it in reverse order e.g. Positive cable first, then negative.
ESP Warning Light If the ESP warning light flashes, this is normal and means that the vehicle is driving on terrains that has traction issues between the road surface and tyres isn't ideal, like snow, gravel or lots of surface water. If the ESP light is constantly flashing, it is a sign there is a problem with the system. This can be identified by using an iCarsoft i908 seat OBD code reader kit. It will provide a detailed fault description.
Dead Coin Battery
A dead battery for the coin is among the most frequent reasons for the keys for the seat to stop working. The key fob has a tiny button cell battery that keeps it running. It is recommended to replace it with a brand new one that has the same voltage, size and specifications as the original. If you're replacing the battery, ensure that you remove all metal retaining clips from the back of the key fob. Also, make sure that the contacts are clean and free of corrosion.
If the key fob was exposed to water, such as soapy or rain, it's recommended that you remove the battery and clean the electronic chip using alcohol or an electronic cleaner prior to putting in the new battery. The chip may be permanently damaged by water. If the key fob still not working after replacing the battery, it could be necessary to replace the entire key fob.
Faulty Receiver Module
If your key fob stopped functioning after replacing the battery, but it did not work, or stopped working suddenly the receiver module may have developed a problem. The receiver module is responsible to receive the radio frequency signals transmitted by your remote key fob, and transform them into electrical commands which are then processed by other modules in the car.
If the receiver module is faulty it will not be able to accept any commands from your remote key fob. In this instance you'll need to visit a dealer for reprogramming of your key fob as well as a new receiver module.
The key fob is sealed by rubber to block water from getting inside the electronic chip. If you submerge the key fob in salted or soapy water it could damage the chip. If your key fob does not function, you can try cleaning the chip using isopropyl or electronic cleaner.
If the keys are in a pair but the receiver module has developed a fault, you can try to reboot all electronics on board by removing the battery at 12 volts for a few minutes. Connect the battery in reverse (negative cable to positive first). This will reset all the electronic components on board and bring them back to their original functionality.
Faulty electronic chip
The key fob is fitted with a tiny chip that transmits an indication from the key to the receiver module each time the key is used. If the signal received does not match the one recorded by the car the immobilizer is able to shut off the engine and stop the vehicle from starting. If the key fob does not work and you are unable to reprogram it, it could be due to a malfunctioning microchip.
seat key transponder programming inside the key fob may need to be replaced to allow it to function again. The best method to do this is by removing the key from its housing and using a pin or needle to contact each of the metal clips that hold it. You'll have to replace them if they are damaged or corroded. Make sure that any replacement batteries are the same voltage, size and specifications as the original.
Seat Alhambra is a well-known and well-designed model, could have issues with certain components or equipment. For example there are owners who have had problems with the climate control system, which can be faulty and get stuck in a particular setting. The infotainment system could also fail and freeze the screens.
